LENT — Ash Wednesday — Mass with Giving of Ashes

Occuring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Edmund's
Address
Church Road Downham Market, PE38 9LF, United Kingdom

Ash Wednesday begins the holy Season of Lent, the period of preparation for Easter.

It gets its name from the custom of receiving on our foreheads a cross in ash as a sign of turning afresh to Christ and away from sin.

Lent is, therefore, a season in which to live the Christian life with renewed vigour —not as a 40-day effort, but as training to carry forward into the rest of the year.

The parish of Downham Market is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Ely’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
