All Saints Croydon has been awarded the Bronze award for Churchyard conservation under the Diocese of Ely and Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust scheme.
The award has been made for both Croydon churchyards and is a focus on what is called un improved grassland which is a valuable habitat for a range of flora, insects, birds and small animals that would naturally inhabit this type of grassland. This grassland is now under threat from modern farming methods and the demand we make for the products that the farms provide quite apart from the demand from housing schemes.
The total area of churchyards throughout England add up to the size of a small National Park so they have finally been recognised as a valuable national resource to help our planet.
