Our Christmas Tree Festival at All Saints’ Church, Landbeach last year proved such a success that the Grade 1 Listed building is to host another festival thanks to the Friends of All Saints’ Landbeach Community Group [FOALS]. Everyone is welcome to participate: the aim is to spread seasonal cheer and support the building as a community hub, food hub and warm hub, open to all, of all faiths and none!

Trees may vary from tiny to tinny, robust to recycled, boxy and brilliant – in every sense. They will be fuelled by battery-powered lights, witty themes and seasonal goodwill. Look out for nan-bread wrappers repurposed for a ’12-Days-Of-Christmas’ theme; egg-boxes reshaped as tree-boughs; and new ways with Chemis-Tree. Community groups and crafters, as well as families and friends, are already devising new and warm-hearted decorations using card, foil, thread, textile, paper, metal, plastic….with techniques including decoupage, painting, print, collage, craft, crochet, sewing, knitting. Macramé and crochet may also feature.

Christmas Wreaths can also be entered into the festival this year, and it is hoped that local workshops, businesses and florist-minded individuals will be keen to take part, using traditional or innovative material.

Entry is free, though donations to the community projects will be welcome. As a music-filled safe space, it’s hoped that this Advent weekend [Sat Nov 30th and Sun Dec 1st] will bring light and cold-busting cheer for Christmas spirit across the Fen Edge villages. Refreshments are available – and a chance to vote for your favourite trees.
