The sound of the Caucasus mountains comes to Cambridge

Ialoni, one of the foremost women’s vocal ensembles from the Republic of Georgia, are visiting Cambridge on 16 and 17 May, to teach and perform beautiful polyphonic songs from the rich and ancient, UNESCO listed tradition of their homeland, encompassing ancient pagan, shamanic ritual songs, soaring liturgical chants, powerful work songs, sweet love songs, rousing wedding songs, and modern, composed songs.
With their deep knowledge of the music and its cultural context, and a charming and engaging delivery, their singing and teaching is sure to delight.
This visit is part of a UK wide tour alongside Ialoni’s good friends, Musikeli; a men's ensemble from Samegrelo region in the west of Georgia. The tour will also include a residential weekend event. This truly will be an unmissable opportunity to sample the full range of this richly diverse musical tradition.
