The service which commemorates the Crucifixion of Our Lord and His death at Calvary. (The word 'good' is used as in 'good things to come' and 'Holy')

St Mary's, West Rainton

St Mary’s is here for you when you need us- for weddings, funerals, Christenings and even on Sundays! Rev. John Estall and Rev. Christine Britcliffe are our Priests. All the decisions about the Church are taken by the Church Council within the guidance of the Church of England. We develop our own services such as Cafe Church, our Remembrance Day service, and our Village Carol Service. We would be delighted to see you at our regular Sunday service at 11am.

St Mary's Church based in West Rainton, County Durham has stood beautifully in the village for 150 years and celebrated it's 150th Anniversary in 2014. The church plays an important role in the community life of the village of West Rainton. The churchyard project has recently resulted in the laying of new paths to the church with seats and information boards.

Recently we have suffered greatly from repeated theft of lead from our roof and the damage caused internally, together with normal aging, is going to cost a great deal to rectify. We have been applying for grants and have just learnt that we have been awarded two lots of £10,000 in matched funding from the Wolfson Foundation and the National Churches Trust. We are so grateful and will now match this to start repairs on our stonework.

We are committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. Once you are on our page you will find a link on the left which will give you the details of our Safeguarding Officer and how to contact our Priests and the Diocese.
