These titles date back to the reign of King Henry V111, who was initially granted the first title in 1521 by Pope Leo X. When Henry renounced the spiritual authority of the Papacy in 1534 he was proclaimed "Supreme head on earth of the Church of England."At his coronation his Majesty swore to govern the people with justice and mercy and to uphold the Anglican Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.
