SUNG EUCHARIST OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

In tonight’s Eucharist we journey with Jesus and his disciples to the Upper Room: the place where they shared their Passover meal – the Last Supper.

There, in the Upper Room, Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment, that they love one another; and he washed their feet, kneeling before them as a servant, to demonstrate the depth and power of that love.

There, in the Upper Room, Jesus gave his disciples a memorial of his death: his victory over sin. He took bread and wine and made them his Body and Blood – he gave us the Eucharist this very night.

After the meal he went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. We shall do the same: we will take the consecrated bread – Christ’s Body – to the chapel, which represents the Garden. There we will watch with him in prayer until midnight.
