Escomb, Etherley, Hamsterley and Witton-le-Wear churches ran an Eco Day to celebrate God’s wonderful world, and the ways in which we can look after it. Beginning with refreshments, we moved on to a short celebration service led by Reverend Claire Gibbs, followed by fun eco-activities led by each of the churches. A soup and bread lunch with a dessert of grapes (grown in Witton-le-Wear!) sustained us for the afternoon’s activities, and we ended with a short session in church to share what we had been doing. We wrote a psalm together, made bird feeders in teacups, repented for our eco neglect, made promises for the future, decorated  crosses with scraps of material, used our senses to explore awe and wonder in churchyard nature, sorted rubbish, and coloured reminders of how we should care for creation. A collection for the A Rocha charity raised over £100 for their worldwide conservation efforts.
