Getting here
St. Cuthbert's Church serves the parish of Benfieldside - the communities of Shotley Bridge, Blackhill and Bridgehill to the north of Consett.
The church was consecrated in 1850, built to a design by the celebrated architect, John Dobson, and is Grade II listed. Across the road, St. Cuthbert's Hall is similarly listed and offers modern facilities for community and church use. A variety of groups meet in the Hall - from Sunday School to Parents & Toddlers; Drama Group; a community-based group working with people with disabilities; uniformed organisations and lunch club - and provision is made for private hire.
St. Cuthbert's Church has a vibrant congregation with a particular emphasis on liturgy and music, study and growth in prayer. We seek to reach out into our community and to be of service to those around us. In our desire to welcome others after the example of Christ, we seek to be as accessible as possible.
