The Repairs to the Chancel - what can we give as families in the Parish. Not many people know this but the up keep of the church is left in the hands of the members of the church. We currently have 30 members who love God and love coming to this special place at the centre of South Hetton. All buildings will begin to look tired over time and all need a season of repair and redecoration. We are at this point now and if we are able we can give something towards that season. People of the parish what would you like to give?We can give time to paintingWe can give time to joinery workWe can give time to building and plastering workWe can give gifts of paint, brushes, rollers. We can give gifts to carpet the small and large spaces of the church. We can come together for special times in the year to give financial gifts. If you would like to offer anything to this project please contact Rev Mark Harrison on 07975782891 or Alan Beck the Church Warden on 07399625745
The Vicar and PCC would like to thank everyone for the great effort put into funding the re-roof of the Chancel. Wilson's Roofing of Hartlepool carried out the work in March and as we all can see the roof and guttering work looks splendid. As a Parish we have much to thank God for all of which inspires is to do those things that are essential for the upkeep of our historic church building. Warden Alan Beck was one person who championed our fund raising from 2017. Pre-Covid, we sponsored him to parachute out from an aeroplane, then he went on sponsored walks and put on music concerts in our church. We also received private donations from parishioners and then by last Christmas we had in hand all the money needed to award the roofing contract to Wilson's. Thank you people of South Hetton, for the many ways you supported us in this work. In the next weeks we will be moving into the next phase of renewing the Chancel space, we will be looking to raise funds for a new project that we hope to have completed by 2024.
The Church building has stood since 1838 and in most cases the fabric is still in good condition. The Chancel was built at a later date to commemorate a pit disaster where many lives were lost. This roof has bore the brunt of sever weather conditions and is now in need of repair. Thank you to all in South Hetton who have made contributions to the funding of a re-roofing of the chancel. The work should now start in the New Year. The Public notice is on our Church Door.
