'The Miners' Cathedral'

St Mary's exists to serve the community of this former mining village on the Durham coast. We worship in the Catholic tradition. There is always something going on at St Mary's. With Mass celebrated seven days a week, regular Morning and Evening Prayer, and frequent social events (see What's On), we welcome everyone to join our church family.

We also host many baptisms, weddings and funerals at St Mary's. To book a Baptism or Wedding, or to arrange for Banns of Marriage to be called, please visit the church on any Wednesday evening from 6pm to 6.30pm.

Every day people come to St Mary's to meet with God in the hallowed space of our beautiful church. When they gather here they are strengthened in spirit and faith through receiving the sacraments and hearing God's word. We encourage everyone to come and learn of the joys of living life daily with Christ within a lively Christian family.
