About Us

We are a very welcoming, friendly church who are working very hard to bring the love of Jesus to our community of Murton.

The Church was built in the late Victorian era and was initially known as the Parish Church of Dalton le Dale. The Rectory was also built alongside the church and has since been replaced with a modern Vicarage.

As a worshipping community we meet every Sunday for either Holy Communion or Service of the Word. This means that we give time to preparing ourselves to meet with God and to listening to the message of the bible. We also meet as one around the table of the Lord to receive all the love and grace gifted to us in the sacrificial love of God through Christ at the Cross. We also embrace the Christian message that we have new life in Christ, so the way of resurrection and life in Gods Spirit is central to our expression of faith.

Our Family service takes place every third Sunday of the month and is very different from the norm. We begin by at 9.50am by opening our  coffee bar and serving hot drinks, hot sandwiches and crepes. After a short time of catch up we meet for a short and inclusive worship service. If we have enough youngsters we put on a drama relating to a bible theme we may also watch a short video. The songs we sing have actions to them which is something young and older people enjoy participating in.

Heart on the Terrace is the Missional ministry of our church and has now been running for 4 years. In that time we have taken an old shop on Woods Terrace and converted it into a church centre devoted to the needs of the people of Murton. We are open Monday to Thursday and have a wide range of events for all. We deal with Food depravation, social isolation and work at the formation of groups that simply make peoples lives a little more peaceful. The current members of our staff team are Louise Robertson, Clare Smith and Lindsey Sutherland and with them we have committed volunteers  Pam Johnson and Trevor Winter supporting the daily needs of the work.

This work was initiated through essential funding from the Church of England and is the means by which the building, salaries and ongoing running costs have been met. This past year has seen other grant funders contribute  to development of the work. These include; our local DIY store, No More Nowt, The Lottery Fund, Believe Housing, CRT, East Durham Trust. We also have generous support and donations from the people of Murton and from those who come in for a coffee.
