Built about 1170, this church still has late Norman features on the south wall. It has seen many changes, through the Reformation and subsequently. A gallery was added as the village grew, then demolished in the mid-19th century and a side aisle and west porch built. Over the last 3 years the church has undergone significant renovation with the provision of an office, accessible toilet, Servery, re-roofing and removal of pews in the North Aisle to provide a flexible community space. Looking to the future, the Breathing Space project was launched in February 2011. This project is to help people not just in Witton Gilbert but in the surrounding area find greater health and well-being, working in partnership with other agencies. The project has received charity status and has appointed a Project Officer. For more information, visit the Breathing Space website: Breathing Space
