News reports and notices from St James', including Tea and Cakes by the River update. Our Tea and Cakes by the River afternoon in August turned into Tea and Cakes in the Church as the weather wasn’t the lovely sunny afternoon we had ordered. Nevertheless, we enjoyed a busy afternoon with lots of visitors and it gave us an opportunity to show off the Church. Several walkers and cyclists who would normally gone straight past, stopped for refreshments and a look around. We were so busy that we completely forgot to take any photos! Thank you to everyone who baked, made tea, washed cups, donated books for our book stall or prizes for our raffle or who helped in so many other ways. We were very happy to have raised £400 to help us look after our beautiful church. September was a very busy month for St James’ with our Clean Up session and not one but two services! The Clean Up went really well, despite it being a wet morning which sadly meant we couldn’t work outside. We had a good turnout and everyone worked really hard, it was a very productive morning. Cobwebs were removed, windows cleaned, brass polished, pews dusted, floors vacuumed and mopped to name but a few of the many tasks undertaken by our team of nine volunteers. Well done and thank you to everyone for your hard work! The Church looked lovely for our regular service the next day.
