St John, Alkmonton

Welcome to St. John's Church Alkmonton. Built in 1843 for William Evans Esq, Banker and Industrialist of Darley Abbey.

St. John's is a Grade ll Listed Building originally a Chapel of Ease for Longford, incorporating the Liberty of Hungry Bentley.

Our lovely pebble-dash Church sits peacefully alongside the quaint village of Alkmonton, that also has Medieval History. The Font in our Church is believed to be Norman and was found in the 19th Century in a nearby field from the old deserted village.

We have an ongoing History Group displaying various local History, Topics and Stories in Church for anyone to look at and enjoy.

"The parish of Alkmonton: St John is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Derby’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services."
