SAFEGAURDING & PAST CASE REVIEW 2

Children and adults deserve the best care that the Church can provide. If anything has gone wrong, or if you have concerns that something might be wrong - either in the church or elsewhere - please do not ignore it.

PAST CASE REVIEW 2

Like other parishes nationwide, we are checking for any previously unreported cases of concern which involve church officers or workers (paid staff or volunteers). Protocols and practice guidance for the Church of England’s Past Cases Review 2, (PCR2) have been published and are on the National Church of England Website. www. churchofengland.org/safeguarding/promoting-safer-church/safeguarding-news-statements/past-cases-review-2

Individual survivors who wish to make representations to the PCR2 process in the Diocese or who need to come forward with information or make any disclosures regarding church related abuse are encouraged to make direct contact with the Safeguarding Team 01332 388678. However, recognising that this may not feel safe for those with experience of abuse from within the church, a dedicated national helpline - 0800 80 20 20 - operated independently from the church, by the NSPCC, was set up in September 2019 and remains available.

Survivors and victims can use the helpline to provide information or to raise concerns regarding abuse within the Church of England context; whether they are reporting issues relating to children, adults or seeking to whistle blow about poor safeguarding practice. Survivors were not invited to contribute to the 2007-2009 PCR and the Church has wanted to ensure a different, trauma informed approach is taken by PCR2. Listening to survivor voices has helped to shape how this review will be conducted.

OTHER SAFEGUARDING CONCERNS

If you have any safeguarding concerns or allegations, please report them promptly. This can be done in several ways:

•If a child or adult is in immediate danger of serious or significant harm, or needs medical attention, contact the emergency services immediately by dialling 999

•The Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO) or the RECTOR can be contacted using the information displayed on the noticeboard inside the church

•You can contact us through our website and ask for the PSO or the RECTOR to contact you. Please be aware that the contact form is seen in confidence by the RECTOR and PSO. Do not disclose the content of your concern or allegation on the contact form

•You can speak to one of the clergy following a service and they will pass on your contact details to the PSO or RECTOR as appropriate

•If the allegation or concern is about the RECTOR or PSO, contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team or 24-hour helpline. Details are here and below.

The PCC has adopted the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy.
