Laetare Sunday – A Day of Joy and Hope
On Sunday, 30th March 2025, at 10:30 AM, we are delighted to welcome Bishop Libby to St Peter’s Church, Elmton. She will lead us in prayer as we gather in faith and fellowship.
Laetare Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent, is a day of rejoicing amidst the solemnity of the season. The name comes from the Latin "Laetare," meaning "Rejoice!", as reflected in the traditional Introit:
"Rejoice ye with Jerusalem; and be ye glad for her, all ye that delight in her: exult and sing for joy with her, all ye that in sadness mourn for her..."
This Sunday offers a moment of respite from Lenten disciplines, reminding us that Easter is near. Historically, it was a day when weddings could take place, and servants were given leave to visit their Mother Church—the church where they were baptized—hence the origin of Mothering Sunday.
Join us as we come together in worship and anticipation of the joy of the Resurrection.
