About Us
St Mary's, Preston-on-Stour serves the communities of Preston and Atherstone, and the estate of Alscot. The parish includes a village shop, and Millennium hall, both in Preston-on-Stour, and businesses linked with Alscot which include coffee grinders and a coffee shop.
The church has 3 bells, and many monuments to members of the West family, who have lived at Alscot Park since the 18th Century. The church holds services on most Sundays, and there are strong links with the close neighbouring parish of Whitchurch. Preston is part of the the Ilmington Downs and Stour Valley churches, (Preston-on-Stour, Whitchurch, Ilmington, Stretton-on-Fosse, Tredington with Darlingscott).
The Church building is included in Simon Jenkins' England's Thousand Best Churches and is, like Alscot Park, an early example of English Gothic Revival architecture, which makes it well worth a visit.
