COME AND SING EVENSONG
- Occurring
- for 5 hours
- Venue
- St Mary
- Address Peel Lane, Astbury Village Astbury Congleton, CW12 4RQ, United Kingdom
We've another 'come and sing' evensong at St Mary’s, Astbury on Sunday 23rd June. This time it's a joyful west gallery one with music from the 18th and early 19th centuries - often written by local composers. Much of it was forgotten after the Victorians threw it out for being too exuberant. However, it's rewarding to sing and easier than cathedral music as there's no chanting.
The music for this service has been researched by Sally Drage, our director of music. It will include a lively anthem by Uriah Davenport of Rushton Spencer, ‘O praise God in his holiness’, which uses dance-like rhythms to imitate instruments. There will also be an introit, a Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, and a doxology for the choir, with hymns for the congregation.
The rehearsal is from 2.30 to 5.00, and the service is at 6.30. To take part, or for more information, contact Sally Drage: [email protected] or 07977 903561. Please book a place by Monday, 17th June. Music can be emailed out in advance, and midi files will be available.
