We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.Check out our entry on the Inclusive Church website here
Did you know that one of the churchwardens was fined 28/- for refusing to subscribe to the ‘re-pewing and beautifying’ of the church in 1636? ...that there were 122 children in the Sunday school in 1833? ...that the spire was ‘much injured’ when struck by lightning in 1838? ...that there was no electricity till 1939? ...that we've just found a Marian mark, which was supposed to keep the church safe from evil, … and that our green man has cat ears? St Mary’s History Group is being revived, so please do join us. We aim to collect information about the history of our amazing church and to then find ways of sharing it with visitors. We also want to take photos of all parts of the church, and to do some work on the archives. Contact Sally Drage for more information: 07977 903561, music@astburychurch.org.uk, or talk to her after a service.
Everyone is most welcome and we teach you the notes, so you don’t have to be a brilliant sight-reader. Rehearsals are on Friday evenings in church, 7.00 to 8.00, and are relaxed and enjoyable – we hope! Our robed choir sings two services a month at 6.30 and a less formal group lead morning worship at 11.00. Some singers, who can only attend occasionally, just come to rehearsals for significant services, such as Christmas or Easter. Also, we have a special choir service on Sunday, 10 September at 6.30. Singers are invited to join us for a Tudor ‘Come and Sing’ Evensong, with an afternoon rehearsal from 2.30 to 5.30. Please contact our director of music, Sally Drage, for more information: email music@astburychurch.org.uk or text 07977 903561
A safe environment for little ones to play and learn to socialise, a chance for parents and care-givers to relax with coffee and cake. If you are new to Congleton or have started a family recently, you will be especially welcome. Come and find out what goes on and find new friends.Due to circumstances beyond our control, we regret we have to increase the entry charge to cover the costs of keeping Toddler Group running. We hope you will understand and support the group going forward. THANK YOU
