NOTICE IS GIVEN that we are applying to the Consistory Court of the diocese for permission to carry
out the following:
Carrying out of memorial testing in the churchyard under a five year ongoing faculty permission.
Prior notice to be given four weeks prior to the testing by placing notices in two prominent positions (at
the entrance to the churchyard and the churchyard sign in the churchyard).
The memorials to be tested by hand as recommended by the Department of Justice guidelines, by standing
beside the memorial and applying firm but steady pressure in each direction in order to detect any
movement.
Notices will be attached to memorials requiring any attention and will be left on the memorial for a period
of four months.
Lists of affected memorials will be posted on church noticeboards and ‘a church near you’ website with
the appropriate legal notes with details for those concerned to raise concerns or objections.
If after four months’ time no remedial action has been taken the monument will be carefully laid flat on
the grave to mitigate the risk of injury to churchyard users.
