The Choir of St. Oswald's Church, Malpas sang the BCP Eucharist at Chester Cathedral on Thursday 6th January. The Mass setting was to the music of Charles Gounod. The Choir sang the Motet Tantum Ergo by Severec and during communion, The Three Kings by Peter Cornelius with the Baritone soloist Oliver Smith. The Organ accompanist was Henry Smith (Junior Organ Scholar at Royal Holloway University). The service was led by the Cathedral Precentor Canon Jeremy Dussek and the Choir was directed by Stewart Smith. The Choir can be heard at St Oswald's every Sunday at the 11am Parish Communion Service. We welcome new members of the congregation warmly.
On Thursday 6th January, the Choir of St. Oswald's will be singing the Epiphany Holy Communion at 5.30pm. The Order of Service will be the Book of Common Prayer. The Mass setting will be by Charles Gounod. The Gradual Motet will be Tantum Ergo by Severec and during Communion, the Choir will sing the Carol - The Three Kings by Peter Cornelius. The Choir will be conducted by Stewart Smith, (Director of Music at St Oswald's) and the Organist will be Henry Smith (Organ Scholar at Royal Holloway University, London). All are warmly welcome to attend, no tickets are required as it is a service.
Our Church finances have suffered during the pandemic, so on Saturday 2nd October, St Oswald's will be open for a special "Malpas Church Support Day". We will be collecting any contributions on this day specifically for maintaining the fabric of the church and we warmly invite you to drop in any time for refreshments and to enjoy some musical entertainment at 12.30 pm All support will be greatly appreciated and help to ensure our Village Church is there for future generations.Whilst enjoying light refreshments, you can tour our Church and view all the historic features throughout the day. Take the opportunity at lunchtime to enjoy an informal organ recital on the famous Lewis organ, given by our Director of Music, Stewart Smith, with flute solos by Oliver Smith.
