St Peter
St Peter's, Langwathby, is part of the East of Eden Mission Community.
We are ordinary people seeking together to follow and serve Jesus - in the community, and for the community. Please feel welcome to contact us.
We are open every day, providing an opportunity for people to have a few moments of quiet and prayer in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is quite surprising how, once within the doors, the noise of the busy village seems to fade away.
For Services and other events: We work very closely with the Methodist chapel in the village. We share our service times with them, meeting in St Peter’s on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, and at the chapel on the first and third Sundays, at 11am. We also hold a contemplative, Taizé-style evening service on the first Sunday of each month, in the chapel at 5pm.
For general queries, please contact our churchwardens: John Doidge-Harrison: Email [email protected]; Bridget Davey 01768 881648

St Lawrence
St Lawrence, Kirkland is part of the East of Eden Mission Community.
The church is believed to date from the C13th although extensively restored and enlarged in the C19th. The mediaeval east window is partly original although heavily restored with C19th tracery probably copied from the original geometry. There is a C13th tomb cover effigy of a knight to the north side of the chancel. The architectural character of the building is dominated by the extent of the C19th alterations.”
This history, although very important underpins that fact that it is a living church and offers itself as the spiritual home for the local communities of Kirkland and Blencarn.
We are also part of the Fellside Family of churches, our worshiping tradition is traditional Church of England, using Common Worship. The churches have in common their commitment to the communities they serve. These churches have been and still are part of the spiritual journey of these communities. From the joys of Baptisms and Marriages to the sadness of Funerals. These are all routed in God’s love for the world and the eternal message of Christ unconditional love who walks with us all.
