Our fifth Safeguarding Season at Carlisle Cathedral will commence on 10th November until 21st November 2025. We are honoured to share that this year, we have been working in partnership with our wonderful Cumbrian based charity Every Life Matters. Together, we will dedicate this season of prayer, reflection, and worship to Suicide Awareness and Prevention. We are sadly aware that some areas of Cumbria experience suicide rates up to 50% higher than the national average. In fact, one person dies by suicide every 5 days in Cumbria. But suicides are preventable, and we can all learn lifesaving skills. We would therefore like to invite as many people as possible to attend a free One-Hour Suicide Alertness Bitesize Training session. These will be delivered by Every Life Matters. This training is open to anyone who wishes to take part including, all church officers and our worshipping communities. Delivery and Dates: There are both in person and online options available: In Person at Carlisle Cathedral: Wednesday 12th November and Thursday 20th November, at 9.15am, 11.15am, 1.15pm and 3.15pm Online: Monday 10th November and Tuesday 18th November, at 9.15am, 11.15am, 1.15pm and 3.15pm Spaces are limited; advance booking is essential to guarantee your place. If not, please be aware that the Samaritans are free to talk to 24/7 on 116 123. You would also be very welcome to speak in confidence with me or a member of the Cathedral team if you had any personal concerns or anxieties about attending this training.
