St John the Evangelist

St John's and St Peter's are two churches within the one parish, rooted in Bible teaching and prayer. Our aim to 'love Christ and make him known' is manifest in the many and varied outreach and nurture groups. Sunday morning gatherings attract people from a wide age range and a wide geographical area. There is a crèche available. Midweek activities cater for young people, men, women and those who are retired. We also have a good number of home groups (alternating with our central prayer meeting) and regularly run Christianity Explored and Discipleship Explored courses.

Safeguarding

"Our parish of Houghton: St John the Evangelist is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Carlisle’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the Parish Safeguarding Officer or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services."
