“Joe’s nine and home is hard. School is even harder. He breaks stuff: pencils, chairs, rules. One
thing he won’t break is his silence.
Heather’s fifty-seven. She’s got a comfortable life and a comfortable home. But once a week,
every week, she spends a very uncomfortable hour – with Joe.
Where will this journey of hours and weeks take them?”

St. Giles Church, Great Orton

A friendly welcome awaits you at St. Giles, the parish church of Baldwinholme, Great Orton, Little Orton and Orton Rigg. We are members of the Carlisle Rural Mission Community located within the Diocese of Carlisle. Our church is located in Great Orton, Cumbria.

St. Giles was founded in the 11th century—1098—and still standing today as witness to our Christian faith. We seek to love God and our neighbours through our worship.

We follow a regular service pattern through the year (services the second and fourth Sunday each month).

We are committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer. For further Safeguarding Guidance, see our Safeguarding page, and our Safeguarding Team Contacts page.

We're always delighted to welcome you to our gatherings.
