As part of the church of England’s #StainedGlassSummer we’d like you to visit us at St Michael’s Church which is built within a Roman Fort on Hadrian’s Wall. The Church is open from 9am to 5pm most days.
The North Aisle windows celebrate our northern saints and their influence on the development of Christianity in this area.
The first window, starting from the east wall above the altar, depicts St Cuthbert with Durham Cathedral above him, and the second shows St Aidan with the ruins of Lindisfarne. On the north side the first window depicts St Kentigern, standing under St Asaph’s Cathedral, The second window shows King Edward 1 with Burgh by Sands Church and the third shows St Ninian under the ruins of Whithorn Abbey. Christian worship has been offered here for over 900 years and the church here still ministers to this community today and to its many visitors.
