Thank you to all who attended the joyful Carol Service at St. Michael’s, Burgh on Sunday 14th December, led by The Reverend Ian Johnston, with Mark Rimmer on the organ. A congregation of nearly 50 enjoyed fellowship over mince pies and hot drinks before the service, and then heard the Christmas story unfold in well loved Carols and readings. Warm thanks too, to those who had decorated the Church so beautifully. The collection taken at the service raised over £225 for the work of Unicef (United Nations Children’s Fund). For our other Christmas services please see the entries elsewhere on our A Church Near You site. We wish everyone a blessed and very happy Christmas.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Church Christmas Fair on 15 November. It was a splendid afternoon with a really good attendance, plenty of activities for youngsters to enjoy, enticing stalls for grown ups, and delicious teas to round off the event. We were all grateful the weather was kind too, after the heavy rain earlier in the week!A impressive total of £1070 was raised. Not only was this a fun afternoon for the village, it is also a crucial part of our fund-raising for the year. It costs about £40,000 to keep the church open and active, and to make our annual contribution to the Diocese.
On 17 October, two very well attended Harvest Services were held at St. Michael’s for Burgh Schoo.l There was splendid singing by the children and contributions on Fair Trade and on Air Miles which they had been researching in their lessons. The services were led by Canon Geoffrey Ravalde and by the Head Teacher, Sarah Robson. The total attendance for both services was just over 300 children and adults.
