Lanercost Priory

The Priory Church of St Mary Magdalene is our parish church. It occupies what was the original nave of Lanercost Priory, an Augustinian monastery founded in 1169 and which has witnessed a wild and turbulent past.

It is an Anglican church and regular services are still held in the Priory, as they have been for almost 850 years.

The Priory lies in North Cumbria, a stone's throw from Hadrian's Wall and set in beautiful countryside. It is at the heart of a small but vibrant rural community.

We love to welcome visitors, please join us at one of our services or just come at any time to soak up the atmosphere of this special place where prayers have been said for over 850 years.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Lanercost with Kirkcambeck: St Mary Magdalene is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Carlisle’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO.

If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO Charlotte Shaw (email: [email protected]) or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor Joanna Van Lachterop. She can be contacted at [email protected] or 07458 016884.

If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
