Occurring
Every Monday and Wednesday at for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
Longtown Rectory
Address
Longtown Rectory, 1 Arthuret Drive, Longtown, CUMBRIA CA6 5SG., CA6 5SG.

You may have wondered why we do and say some of the things we do during Holy Communion or you may once have known but things have become a bit fuzzy with time. There will be a series of studies on the Eucharist at the Rectory, 1 Arthuret Drive, CA6 5SG. It will be over a period of 6 weeks either on Mondays 1.15-2.30 pm. starting 15th May or on Wednesdays 7.30 – 9.00 pm. starting 17th May (our website cannot cope with two groups on different days!).

It will be based on:

Pilgrim Grow (2014): The Eucharist (Pilgrim Course) Church House Publishing
by Robert Atwell, Steven Croft, Stephen Cottrell, Paula Gooder (Author)

I will have a spare for session 1 so that you can see whether you want to get it. It isn’t expensive. I will send you all the materials you need for session 1 beforehand.

Each session has the following structure:

• Theme – delivered as a short video
• Opening prayers
• Conversation starter
• Scripture reading, as Lectio Divina (reading a passage slowly and prayerfully a number of times and seeing what pops out), and reflection (which is both in the booklet and as an audio recording)
• Reflection on the theme from a contemporary Christian writer (in booklet and via audio)
• Questions for discussion
• Journeying on: homework for next week
• Closing Prayer
• Wisdom for the Journey – extracts from the writings of the Church Fathers and other writers for us to think about

If you are interested in coming please leave a message with Paul Smith on 013873 81254 or [email protected] so that we know how many chairs to put out and biscuits to get in.

The Wednesday group meets at 19:30 until 21:00 hrs.

Arthuret Church

The church of St Michael and All Angels is situated on a hill in the ancient parish of Arthuret and overlooks the market town of Longtown with fine views of the surrounding countryside. The current church dates from 1609 and is designed in perpendicular style with battlemented parapets. It was built through national subscription on the order of James VI and I and, allegedly, due to a plea by Archie Armstrong, his court jester, who came from this area. The grave of Archie is in the churchyard. Arthuret has a large churchyard comprising an old section on the South side and a relatively new area on the North side. The times of our services and other activities can be found elsewhere on this website or on our "The Esk Parishes" Facebook page  and all are welcome.
