We'd love to hear from you
The church of St Mary the Virgin, Stone-in-Oxney is one of a group of nine churches based at St Mildred's Tenterden.
It stands on a prominent position overlooking Romney Marsh and the Rother Levels. It is believed to have been built in the 13th century on the site of a Roman Mithraic Temple. It was largely rebuilt following a fire in 1464 in the Perpendicular style. Its interior is relatively austere and plain, but with elegant proportions and a feeling of lightness and peace.
An unusual feature is the original Roman altar that remains in situ inside the church at the base of the tower.
Further information about the church is given on its website, www.stoneinoxneychurch.org.
