Daily Scripture“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgement, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” (Romans 12:3)Daily Reflection Some of us go through life with an over-estimated sense of our own importance. Some of us do not have very high self-esteem at all. Both are wrong; both are evaluating ourselves by worldly standards, which isn’t a great measure to use. To know your true importance in life you should know the basis of your self-worth: Christ died for you; that is how important you are.Without Christ we aren’t capable of much by eternal standards. With Christ you are valuable; you can know you are loved; and you are capable of worthy service for God. When you are having a bad day, remember that. Have faith; trust God; you are of infinite worth… whatever you think the world thinks of you. But by earthly standards, please, “do not think of yourself more highly than you ought”!Revd David
Daily Scripture:“And the Lord will become king over all the earth; on that day the Lord will be one and his name one” (Zechariah 14:9)Daily Reflection:Have you ever wondered who or what is the one true God? With so many religions in the world today, it’s no surprise we could be confused. Christianity is not a religion – it is a relationship. The God of the Bible wants to know you and be known by you, to bless you in all areas of your life as you trust Him with them, and to reward you with a place in Heaven for all eternity. This is not a God who demands perfection, this is not a God who places rules and restrictions on our lives, this is not a God who will stop loving us if we do something wrong…. The God of the Bible wants to give us everything we need, in abundance. A day will come when human minds will understand, and human eyes will see that there is only one God – the God who created you, who knows you and who loves you.Vicki Young
Daily Scripture“The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” (Psalm 138 v8) Daily Reflection:The book of Psalms is a very “human” book. Real people, real feelings, real thoughts, poured out to God. Even if you have never really thought about God, God has spent every moment since you were born thinking about you. The verse above tells us that He has a purpose for each of us – a purpose born of His love for us – and it can only be good. But God is a gentleman, and will never push His way into your life. He waits to be invited – and He will wait for as long as it takes for you to wonder about Him, want to know more about Him, and eventually, for you to decide to trust Him with your life. If life hasn’t been working out as you hoped, perhaps its time to try another way….the Way, the Truth and the Life.Vicki Young
Daily Scripture“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3.9)Daily ReflectionMost of us have things in our lives we know we should put right but keep putting off. Are there people we have wronged or who have wronged us? What are we doing to heal the breach? Have we ‘fences to mend’ with family or neighbours? Things in our lives that are seriously in need of reappraisal? In the service of Compline we pray that God will grant us ‘time for repentance and amendment of life, and the gift of the Holy Spirit’: that is, time to sort things out, get back on track and in the power of the Holy Spirit to live our lives free from all these unnecessary worries. God is very patient, but that is no reason to delay. No time like the present!Revd Rosemary
