Daily Reflection

A French priest, Père Jean-Luc, once wrote that while we expect God to illuminate the whole of the path ahead with a great lighthouse beam, what He actually gives us is more like a bicycle lamp, giving us just enough light to show us the way, and encouraging us to trust Him for the rest of our journey. (In French this is quite witty, as the words for ‘lighthouse’ and ‘bicycle lamp’ are almost identical!)

Just as we pray ‘Give us this day our daily bread’, not a whole freezer full, but just enough for today’s needs, so we pray that Jesus, the incarnate Word, the Light of the world, will light up each step of our way as we journey on in faith.
