Daily Scripture:
‘Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth' (Psalm 46:10)
Daily Reflection:
This Psalm refers to ‘trouble’, foaming waters, mountains trembling, kingdoms tottering. The writer stands firm in faith that God, ‘the Lord of hosts, is with us’ - not faith after rescue, but faith and hope while in trouble: ‘God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns’.
The greater the crisis, the better to be still and to pray for hope and faith. David Evans wrote a fine hymn: ‘Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the holy one, is here… Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place: he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace. No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him. Be still…’
