Daily Scripture
So Jesus asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to go away?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’ (John 6:67-69)
Daily Reflection
Things are evidently getting tough for those following Jesus; many are finding it too tough and decide to leave, to go back to an easier way of life. Jesus asks the disciples if they want to leave too.
There are two things going on in these short verses, which apply to us too. Firstly, we can either accept or reject Jesus for who he is, as he asks us the same question. Secondly, in Peter’s response, he speaks honest words for all of us: “To whom can we go?” There is no other way!…..You have the words of eternal life. When I meet with baptism or wedding couples, I often put to them the simple question: “Do you believe that there is God?” Either God exists or he doesn’t. Either Jesus exists or he doesn’t. Where do you stand today?
