Daily Scripture
Strengthen the weak hands,
and make firm the feeble knees.
Say to those who are of a fearful heart,
‘Be strong, do not fear!
Here is your God.
He will come with vengeance,
with terrible recompense.
He will come and save you.’
(Isaiah 35:3-4)
Daily Reflection
In these days we need encouragement. Our hearts are often fearful, we feel worn down by what is happening to us, or to those around us. We wonder what will come next, how things will turn out, if this is the worst, or if something even more terrifying might be in store…Our hands feel weak and our knees shake.
Then it is good to hear God speak to us through the prophet Isaiah’s words. Written a long time ago, they still speak powerfully today. This is the way the Bible works when we read it prayerfully. The words are as relevant, and as vibrant, as when they were first put down. God speaks his encouragement to us, promising to save us from all that threatens to overwhelm and destroy. Hallelujah!
