St Mary the Blessed Virgin Church, Woodnesborough is very pleased to host a concert by ‘The Aldington Quintessentials’ Wind Quintet, which includes members of Folkestone Symphony Orchestra. Date: Saturday 13th July 2024 at 7.30pm. Admission is FREE with a retiring collection in aid of ’Sounding Out’, a local musical charity. Refreshments will be provided after the concert. The programme will include a narrated musical version of Hansel & Gretel by Humperdinck with Jan Leeming as the Narrator. Jan Leeming is the President of Folkestone Symphony Orchestra as well as a retired TV presenter. The Overture from the Magic Flute by Mozart and a selection from the Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan will also be part of this wonderful programme. Belinda Pidgen is the clarinettist in the quintet and also our church organist. More details of the programme and the names of the musicians in the wind quintet will be published in the next magazine. The Charity ‘Sounding Out’ is a local musical charity that is run in partnership with The Kings School Canterbury. It aims to share the standard of excellence in musical education and the resources available at The King's School, Canterbury with those that might not otherwise be able to learn an orchestral instrument or develop their general musicianship, without cost being a barrier. We are very pleased to announce that the Thanet Male Voice Choir will be performing at Woodnesborough Church on Saturday 15th June at 7.30pm Tickets £10 per person- to include light refreshmentsPleaase contact Denise - 01304 619654 or Alison - 07460 839319 Formed in 1977 in Broadstairs, the choir performs regularly throughout the year and raises many thousands of pounds for various local causes and charities in the East Kent area. During its 40+ years, the choir has performed in France, Italy and Germany as well as the UK.
After a concerted effort among the congregation and PCC, Woodnesborough Church has achieved a Bronze Eco Church award. The overall aim of the Eco Church award scheme is to celebrate the ways that church communities have been engaging with caring for the earth as a key part of our Christian faith. The categories assessed in the survey for the award are Worship and Teaching, Buildings, Land, Community and Global Engagement and Lifestyle. We achieved a gold level in 2 categories, silver in 2 categories and bronze in one category. We are now working towards achieving our Silver award.Some of the things we are doing across our church land to encourage bees and pollinators include:Planting of plants that attract insects such aslavender and other herbs, sowing of wildflowerseeds and sunflower seeds as well as planting ofblossom bearing trees including fruit bearing trees.Allowing the natural propagation of plantsincluding nettles.The use of ceramic plant pots to try andencourage solitary bees to form nests inside.We aim to promote as much bio-diversity as possible.
