This is our main Sunday service: Holy Communion with hymns and a sermon, robed choir and clergy. Our worship at this service is quite formal but relaxed. The words are taken from the Church of England prayer-book "Common Worship," and we sing hymns from the New English Hymnal, accompanied by a magnificent Harrison organ. The choir lead our hymns, and also sing a motet and communion anthem during the service, but we give our choirs a holiday break on August Sundays.

Children are welcome. There is always somewhere for adults to sit with children who don't want to be in the pews or chairs amongst grown-ups, and there is usually some organised activity for young children of primary school age, focused on Bible stories, but if you need to be sure this is happening, please contact us first to check.
If you want your children to worship with you, they're always welcome in the congregation, but maybe the best day to come is the first Sunday of the month, when our girls' choir is featured, the worship is a little more relaxed, a little shorter, and more oriented towards a family congregation.

The church of St Leonard, Hythe

The ancient parish church of Hythe, St Leonard's has overlooked this historic Cinque Ports Town for nearly a thousand years. It is now the central church of a thriving parish, the place where you will find our main Sunday worship, and the place to come to connect with the Church of England in Hythe.

St Leonard's is known as "the church with the bones," on account of its famous ossuary containing a large collection of human bones. The church is open for visiting every day; the ossuary is open for respectfully-managed visiting from Easter until the end of September.  See "The Ossuary" page of our website for more details.

We are welcoming and open to all, whether you come to explore the church and its ossuary, to worship with us while visiting the area, to find a church to call home, or to explore faith and life.

Use the links on the left or our main website to find out more about us, get in touch, plan a visit, or come to one of our services to meet us.
