About Us
St James is a small, but beautiful 800 year old church, built of Cotswold stone, set in the heart of the unspoilt village of North Wraxall. The interior of the Church has some very rare Jerusalem Wall Paintings.
The Parish comprises five hamlets - North Wraxall, Ford, Upper Wraxall, Mountain Bower and The Shoe.
Together the five hamlets form a strong community, with many events and clubs - these include the Take Five Community Choir (which practices in the church on Thursday evenings) the church also hosts the annual Village Show.
Because the Parish has no shops, In 2011 the Pop Up Shop was started. There have now been several 'Pop Up' shops which sell high quality local produce from beautiful organic meat or cheese to chic designer cushions! These are proving to be very popular with visitors coming from outside the parish to shop and enjoy the atomosphere, coffee and delicious cakes!
St James is a very friendly church, with a mixture of services to suit most tastes including traditional 1662, Thank God for Sunday (which is followed by cheese and wine), Celtic, and occasionally Taize services. As well as these regular services, there are also special services for Mothering Sunday, Rememberance day, Animal Service and Carol Service - these are much loved services where the whole community celebrates together. Children are welcome at all times and can if they wish use the play area in the Metheun Chapel.
Up to date times, events and information can be found on our parish website
