Lent Easter Notices Church_news From_the_Vicar
I wonder what the word 'Extravagance' feels like to you?

Perhaps it has negative connotations possibly allied to wastefulness - after all we live in a world where so many are in great need - where many do not have enough. Surely therefore extravagance is wasteful - a luxury that we can neither afford or should entertain..?

Or maybe extravagance has some positive connotations for you - sometimes it is a good thing that we 'push the boat out' and mark a special day or occasion. There are major things in life that warrant extravagance and celebration - 50 years of marriage, getting that dream job, passing that degree, a notable family occasion or the passing of a driving text or exam. It would seem somewhat churlish and a little bit odd to be invited to a wedding and then get served up beans on toast as the centrepiece of the catering...

This weekend's bible passage (not the one above which I just used as a curious example of Jesus' own wastefulness (or prodigality)) explores an extravagant act done to Jesus. We are now approaching Easter and we join with Jesus in preparing for what is to come, the journey to the Cross and beyond.

Come along and find out more!

A longer than usual what's on below this week just too flag up the various Easter services on the way and indeed a reminder that a week on Sunday we will be celebrating Palm Sunday as we did last year - by walking from St Christophers to St Cuthberts and joining all four churches in doing Palm Sunday together. I still need a couple of volunteers who might be willing to be part of the passion reading so if you feel like joining in in that do let me know tomorrow..Peace and Blessings
