Although the word “trinity” does not appear in Scripture, it is taught in Matthew 28:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 and many other bible passages. The concept of the trinity can never be completely understood or rationalized, but it is clearly taught in Scripture. It is appropriate that this mystery is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit first occurred. On Trinity Sunday we try to explain the clues written in Scripture which guide us to a fuller understanding of our triune God. The Father is God from the beginning (John 1:1); Jesus revealed Himself as equal to the Father in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” Together, they sent the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). God for us, we call You Father, God alongside us, we call You Jesus, God within us, we call You Holy Spirit. Prayer Workshop II: Saturday 21st June there is another opportunity for us to learn more about prayer and to deepen our spiritual connection with God. Vicky is offering different methods of praying and introducing us to some helpful resources. Don’t worry if you didn’t make it to the first session, you’re welcome to come along this Saturday. Coach Trip: St Peter's and St David's, Fleetwood are arranging a coach trip to Beamish on Saturday 30th August 2025. Beamish is a world-famous open-air museum which brings the history of North East England to life at its 1820s Pockerley, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village, 1940s Farm, 1950s Town and 1950s Spain's Field Farm exhibit areas. The plan is to travel to Beamish by coach and spend the day there, leaving from outside St Peter's at 8am, arriving around 11am. The coach will depart from Beamish at 5pm, returning back to St Peter's around 8pm. This is a great opportunity to invite a friend who doesn't normally come to Church to get to know some other Christians. Visit www.fleetwood.church/beamish to book. Vicky will offer different methods of praying and introduce us to some helpful resources. These one-hour sessions will be held in the Jubilee Room from 10.30 am and everyone is welcome to attend. Pentecost - Today, the Day of Pentecost marks fifty days since Easter Day and brings the Easter season to an end. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when we recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations. Jesus had promised his followers that, although they would not see him after his Ascension, they would receive the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire them. The Acts of the Apostles describes how the crowds gathered in Jerusalem – representing many nationalities and speaking many languages – were able to hear the disciples preaching in their own language. The colour most often associated with Pentecost is red, representing the tongues of fire which the Acts of the Apostles describes appearing above the heads of the disciples as a sign that they had received the Holy Spirit. It is the same Holy Spirit who empowers us today to be the people of God in this place and at this time. Without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing. Breathe in me O Holy Spirit that my thoughts may all be holy; act in me O Holy Spirit that my works, too, may be holy; draw my heart O Holy Spirit that I may love that which is holy. Strengthen me O Holy Spirit to defend all that is holy; guard me then O Holy Spirit that I always may be holy. These prayer stations are there to help us focus on specific areas for prayer – from personal reflection to exploring different prayer models, to praying for our community of Fleetwood and for the world. There is a written guide as we come into church to show us where the stations are. There are items to read and prompts for prayer at each station. Please come and go round the prayer stations – take as long or as little time as you like but come with an open heart allowing the Holy Spirit to meet you in prayer. Pentecost Walk: On Saturday 7th June Fleetwood Churches Together intend to walk from St David’s Church on Larkholme Lane, starting at 9.30 am to St Mary’s Church on Lord’s Street, taking in all the other churches enroute. At each church we will stop and be led in prayer before moving on to the next. The route is approximately 3 miles and it would be lovely if you could join us on this Walk of Witness through our community. Deanery Synod: This is an open meeting of the Synod and therefore everyone is invited. The topic for discussion is in relation to the centenary celebrations of the Diocese of Blackburn in 2026. As part of the evening details regarding the ‘mission weekend’ which is to be held in every parish in September 2026 will be revealed. Fleetwood Foodbank: Last week we were encouraged to consider committing to donating £10/m to The Pantry, Fleetwood’s Foodbank. Huge thanks if you have already responded. If you are a taxpayer then the ‘Gift Aid’ section of the form needs to be completed and handed to the Vicar who will ensure that it is recorded with the Trust. Forms are still available at the back of church. Please also remember in your prayers: Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Louise Gorley, Mark Price, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Chris Kelsall, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, Joanne Mallin, Harvey and Chris Cousins.
