It’s a joy to see our Little Gang Families and Family & Co congregation coming together with us and others from the community for these events. Well done everyone! The Dream Team Singers – Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of singing and music from the shows in a special concert in memory of Sam Pinder & Tim Viney. We’re delighted to be able to offer our church to the community for these gatherings. Grateful thanks to David and Joanne who looked after the singers at their rehearsal, organised and provided the refreshments on the day. Construction Site – Please take great care in the church car park. If you are able to park on Highbury Avenue or Broadway, leaving the temporary car park for those who need it most, that would be really helpful. Drainage works have begun, making the entrance into the Broadway Rooms a little trickier. We are in constant communication with the Developers and are keeping the disruption to a minimum. Please bear with us. Trinity – the meaning of the season – Last week marked the beginning of the second half of the Christian year, the first being Advent to Trinity, the second being Trinity to Advent. The first half of the Church year has set before us the saving life and work of Jesus Christ and now in this second half, we are prompted to conform our lives to the truth we have seen in the first half of the year. As Christians we are not only to know that our salvation is in Jesus Christ, but we ourselves must become like him. The emphasis in Trinity season is on the transformation of our life by and through the love of God. The Collects in Trinity are prayers for Divine help and guidance to enable us to bring forth the fruits of Christianity. The continuing theme throughout Trinity season is that of the practice of allowing God to live in us so that we might be able to say with St. Paul: “I am crucified with Christ, yet I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me” (Gal. 2. 20). May we allow God to transform us by his life, that we may each be more beautiful to God, to others and ourselves. 100 club winners for May – Congratulations to Dorothy Jones, Elizabeth King, David Meekins, Nancy Burr, Robert Meekins, Margaret Pook, Samantha Palinczuk, Bernice Meekins, Sandra Fowler, Laura Martin, Penny Meekins, Moira Greenwood, Karen Hay, Gillian King and Linda Cawley. Please also remember in your prayers: Rev Jane Everitt, Rev Martin Keighley, Elizabeth King, Chris Kelsall, Michaela Jones, Mark Price, Grantham Fidler, Tony Hardman, John Hawley & Peter Hollier. And the families of Brett Leicester and Edward Greaves whose funerals are due to take place.

Although the word “trinity” does not appear in Scripture, it is taught in Matthew 28:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 and many other bible passages. The concept of the trinity can never be completely understood or rationalized, but it is clearly taught in Scripture. It is appropriate that this mystery is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit first occurred. On Trinity Sunday we try to explain the clues written in Scripture which guide us to a fuller understanding of our triune God. The Father is God from the beginning (John 1:1); Jesus revealed Himself as equal to the Father in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” Together, they sent the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). God for us, we call You Father, God alongside us, we call You Jesus, God within us, we call You Holy Spirit. Messy Church - Will take place in the Broadway Rooms from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm, this Saturday. Crafts, puppets, worship and lunch. We always need lots of helpers to look after our guests so come along and we’ll be sure to find you a job. The Dream Team Singers – This Saturday (10th), are presenting an afternoon of music and singing to celebrate the lives of two of their members. It starts at 2 pm and entry is free. There will be refreshments and a retiring collection. All are welcome and it’s sure to be a gathering full of joy. Thursday Mornings – Have you been along to the Jubilee room on a Thursday morning? If not why not give it a go now the weather is a bit brighter? Bring a friend, have a cuppa and get to know some new people. We are so very grateful to the band of church folk who provide this weekly opportunity for us. If you are stuck at home on a Thursday and not able to get out then Pastor George runs a Churches Together bible study on Zoom each week starting at 10.30 am. If you would like to give this a go, please speak to the Vicar who will organise a link for you. Please also remember in your prayers: Rev Jane Everitt, Rev Martin Keighley, Elizabeth King, Chris Kelsall, Michaela Jones, Mark Price, Grantham Fidler, Tony Hardman, John Hawley & Peter Hollier. And the families of Leslie Goodey, Brett Leicester and Tom Hardman whose funerals are due to take place.

The first is our Summer themed Messy Church which will take place in the Broadway Rooms from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm. Crafts, puppets, worship and lunch. We always need lots of helpers to look after our guests so come along and we’ll be sure to find you a job. The second event, on the same day, will be held in church where our friends the Dream Team Singers are presenting an afternoon of music and singing to celebrate the lives of two of their members. It starts at 2 pm and entry is free. There will be refreshments and a retiring collection. Pentecost - Today, the Day of Pentecost marks fifty days since Easter Day and brings the Easter season to an end. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when we recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations. Jesus had promised his followers that, although they would not see him after his Ascension, they would receive the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire them. The Acts of the Apostles describes how the crowds gathered in Jerusalem – representing many nationalities and speaking many languages – were able to hear the disciples preaching in their own language. The colour most often associated with Pentecost is red, representing the tongues of fire which the Acts of the Apostles describes appearing above the heads of the disciples as a sign that they had received the Holy Spirit. It is the same Holy Spirit who empowers us today to be the people of God in this place and at this time. Without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing. Breathe in me O Holy Spirit that my thoughts may all be holy; act in me O Holy Spirit that my works, too, may be holy; draw my heart O Holy Spirit that I may love that which is holy. Strengthen me O Holy Spirit to defend all that is holy; guard me then O Holy Spirit that I always may be holy. And the families of Leslie Goodey and Tom Hardman whose funerals are due to take place.
