Jane, Tim and the family were regular members of St Nicholas Church for many years. Jane answered her calling to Priesthood, giving up her career in the Civil Service. Having completed her residential training, she was posted to St Chad’s Poulton where she served her title. Incumbencies followed in Cornwall and the Midlands and following an early retirement Tim and Jane returned to Fleetwood in 2019. Though we accept Jane is at peace and in God’s safe keeping we are still sad. At times like this we are reminded that the Lord is in our midst and comforts us with his word: Blessed are those who mourn, they shall be comforted. Please remember Tim, Joseph and Hannah in your prayers.Christmas Fair: ‘Generous beyond words’ is how someone described the gifts that were donated for this year’s fair. This newsletter is being produced before the outcomes are known so we’ll be sure to update you next week. Suffice to say an enormous thank you to everyone who was involved in planning and organising, buying and ordering, making phone calls, selling raffle tickets and collecting prizes for weeks and weeks leading up to the event. Team St Nic’s, lead by Joanne and David have done it again! Well done and thank you for your dedication to deliver at top class occasion for the church and for the community. Lakeland Lodge: This Tuesday we’ve been invited to go along and sing some Christmas carols for our friends at Lakeland Lodge. We need as many volunteers as possible to sing. So, if you fancy joining us, please meet in the car park of the care home at 10.55 am. Alternatively, if you would like a lift, speak to Ruth and she’ll arrange a lift from St Nic’s car park. Phil came on placement to St Nic’s on Advent Sunday 2020. It was a placement that was due to end after Easter in 2021, but he liked us so much and we liked him that we arranged for an official transfer from Poulton to Fleetwood. It really has been a joy and a massive help having Phil and Janet on our leadership team. Despite Phil working in Glasgow Monday to Friday, he has been able to exercise a full ministry here as a Lay Minister, by which we have been blessed and nourished. Janet was given the unenviable task of setting up ‘Safeguarding’ at St Nic’s, whilst managing a full-time position with the Home Office. Together they introduced Messy Church to St Nic’s; yesterday being another amazing gathering of families from around Fleetwood who came to play, learn about Jesus and eat together.We will be forever indebted to both Phil and Janet for the contribution they have made while being a part of our church family. Though we will miss them, we send them off with the words of St Paul:“We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Rom 8:28). He leaves with our love and prayers.”“As the Church of England, we now have an enormous task in front of us. We need to renew our Church such that it places the needs of the most vulnerable, including survivors of abuse, at the centre. We need to reform our safeguarding culture and processes in order to regain people’s confidence. We need to hear the voices of critics as prophetic ones. The challenges sound hard, but we do not face them alone.”“The Church of God, of which the Church of England is a small part, has only one Head who is Jesus Christ. It is he who can forgive sin and grant a fresh start. It is he who awakens our consciences to the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable. It is he who is shaking His Church awake.
