Platinum Jubilee - It’s no secret that the Queen’s faith in Jesus Christ is of central importance to her. Her Majesty the Queen has rightly been globally praised for doing an outstanding job since she came to the throne at the age of 25. And for 70 years she’s done her work as Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, and Supreme Governor of the Church of England with amazing diligence, great grace, astute intelligence, deep humility, and tremendous effectiveness. Where does all that come from – the clarity of vision, the stamina, the steadfastness in duty and care? What has shaped and sustained this remarkable stateswoman? While we know very little about what she thinks about a whole host of issues, she has been extraordinarily clear about where her guiding principles come from. Her answer can be summed up in one word: Jesus. It is, as she testifies, Jesus’ teaching that has shaped her, Jesus’ example that has inspired her, and Jesus’ power that has enabled her to do the job God called her to do. As we celebrate our servant Queen, we look with her to Jesus our servant King, as we seek to discern his plan for our lives and for his Church.

‘…..the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’

Our celebrations started as we joined the fabulous ‘Britannia’ concert in church on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Healthier Fleetwood. The bank holiday weather isn’t looking great at this point so we’re going to play it safe! Our Thursday morning Community Coffee will have a Jubilee Theme. Even if you don’t usually attend, why not come along and join the celebrations? On Saturday we will join the event at Marine Gardens starting at 12 noon. Bring something to sit on and a picnic! And following the 10.45 service on Sunday we will toast the queen with a celebratory cake and some fizz together.

Almighty God, whose son Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace; Grant that, as we celebrate the earthly reign
of your servant Elizabeth our Queen, so through her example of faith and self–giving, we your people may come to know the fulness of your power and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
