As this newsletter goes to print Russia has begun a large-scale military attack on Ukraine, its southern neighbour, on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin. There are reports of attacks on Ukrainian military infrastructure across the country and Russian convoys entering from all directions. And so, begins the nightmare we have all been dreading! The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell have condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine as “an act of great evil”. They are urging Christians to make this Sunday a special day of prayer for Ukraine, Russia and for peace. In the meantime, let us pray fervently for peace to reign.

God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying

down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would

draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment, and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in

fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace Amen,

Lent Daily Reflections: A book containing a daily reflection for each day of Lent is available at the back of church. Please take a copy and be sure to set aside some time every day to spend time in God’s presence. Each Friday during Lent there will be a simple lunch served in one of local churches. St Nicholas is hosting the first one this Friday, (see above).
