Sundays before Lent Last week as we celebrated Candlemas, we noted that it marked our turning <span style="font-size: 1rem;">away from Christmas as we point ourselves towards Easter. We left behind the joy of remembering Jesus’ birth and we now begin to prepare ourselves for the Cross through Lent. Once again this year, the Diocese have produced a booklet containing a daily reflection for each day of Lent. It will soon be available at the back of Church, enough for everyone to have a copy. (If you’re reading this on-line and would like a booklet, do be in touch with us via the contact form on the website). Please do join with us as we reflect and pray our way through this holy season which begins on 2nd March.

Lent LunchesWe are thrilled that after a two year break our Ecumenical lunches on Fridays during Lent will resume. St Nicholas is hosting the first lunch on 4th March. We will publish the list of venues in due course but please do make a special effort to be available for at least some of these simple lunches. If you are able help in anyway on the 4th, please see Margaret K or Shirley.

Vision 2026 - Bishop Julian originally presented our vision for the future of the Diocese over a period of several months in late 2014 and early 2015 and it now drives everything we do across the Church of England in Lancashire. What is it? Well in a nut shell the vision is “Healthy Churches transforming Communities.” The PCC met last week to consider how we at St Nicholas are responding to this call to transform the community in which we are set. In due course we will be inviting YOU to join these discussions. In the meantime, as Vicar, I want to encourage you to pray the Diocesan prayer as part of your own devotional time in addition to us using it in our public worship. And let’s pray it ‘intentionally’ expecting God to answer our prayers, as we seek to make disciples, to be witnesses, to grow leaders and inspire children and young people in the parish of St Nicholas.

Elsie Abram ne FaircloughIt is with sadness that we have been informed of the death of Elsie, Dorothy Angel’s cousin’s wife. Elsie was known to many of you. She died on 16th January in Derby.

100+ Club - Winners last week were Elizabeth King (no 7), Mandy Ryan (no 16) and Elizabeth King (no 28)

Please remember in your prayers – Fr Ron, Rev Jane Everitt, Heather, Eddie Gillon, Baby Milly, Bishop Julian, Rev Martin Keighley, Ann Howarth, Hilary & Gillian King. And also, the families of Paul Terpet, Susan Barry and Daniel Reid whose funerals are due to take place.
