Easter Sunday: - How’s your Easter bonnet coming along? We will continue our celebrations over a Jacob’s Join lunch in the Broadway Rooms on Easter Sunday. We would be sincerely grateful if you might consider donating any items of chocolate or Easter eggs to be used as prizes on the day.
Lent Study 4: On Wednesday we were in the company of Esther. Finding herself as Queen of Persia, she was courageous enough to intervene to save her people. In so doing she was strengthened by the prayers of her community. We thought about the power and comfort of communal prayer and joined together in the ancient office of Compline, which derives its name from a Latin word meaning ‘completion’. It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before the end of the day and is particularly special when prayed communally.
Reasons for Covering Statues: One of the primary reasons for covering the statues in church with purple shrouds is to encourage us to focus on spiritual reflection by removing any distractions. The act of covering statues serves as a visual reminder of the solemnity of this season. But it also serves to create a sense of anticipation for the joyous celebrations of Easter. By temporarily concealing the statues and crosses, we are underscoring the idea of waiting and preparing for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM): A reminder that the APCM will take place in Church on Tuesday 13th May at 7 pm. Please save the date, especially if you are now registered on the electoral roll of St Nic’s. There are three vacancies coming up on the church council. If you feel called to serve on the leadership team of the church, please speak to the Vicar.
100 Club Winners in March: Muriel Freestone, Chris Ashworth, Margaret Kershaw, Carol Newton, Pat Warrington, Kath Greatorex, Ruth Aspinall, Sue Dell, Bernice Meekins, Carole Pilling, Jeannette Norman, Kerry Connelly, Daniel Ashworth and Margaret Forshaw.
