Good news! Our application to National Churches Trust has been successful and we have been awarded a further £30,000 towards the cost of our Tower repairs. This is truly an answer to prayer and affirmation that folk at National level agree that St Nic’s is worth investing in for the future. Work is due to start immediately after Easter.
Lent Study 2: In our study on Wednesday and using Elijah as an example we were asked to consider what ambitious prayer looks like. Bishop Philip shared examples of prayers that Elijah had prayed and prayers Jesus had prayed. What we learned from these examples is that we are to ‘pray big, pray bold and pray with ambition.’ Too often our prayers are timid and tentative. We ask small or we often don’t ask at all. Maybe we struggle to believe in a God who might actually intervene and change things. ‘Our prayer is that God’s world and our world become one world. Jesus teaches his disciples to pray, ‘Thy kingdom come.’ There is no bigger or more ambitious prayer possible than that. It asks for that day when the kingdoms of this world shall become the Kingdom of our God and of his Christ. We long for that day, we yearn and pray for that day’. So, let’s be ambitious in our prayers for change. Pray for our church to grow. Pray that through its ministry, men and women and girls and boys might come to faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for the renewal and revitalisation of our church. Pray for a return to Christ across our nation. Let these prayers and many more come out of your mouth. Jesus says ‘Ask and it shall be given you.’ Session 3 will take place this Wednesday at 4.30 pm.
Easter Lilies: On Easter Day it is our tradition to fill the church with Easter lilies. To help with the cost of these, you are invited to make a donation in memory of a loved one whose name will be added to a ‘remembrance roll’ and displayed in church. Please place you donation and loved one’s name in an envelope and deposit it in the box at the back of church.
Church Keys: If you have any keys, either for church or the Broadway rooms please annotate the record card at the back of church. If you have keys belonging to the church that you no longer use, then please hand them back to the Vicar or one of the Churchwardens as soon as possible. Many thanks.
Please also remember in your prayers: Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Louise Gorley, Mark Price, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, Chris Kelsall, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, Primrose, Chris Cousins, Rob and Baby Miles Butterworth. We also remember the families of Joyce Walker, Jean Stephenson, David Thornton, Terry Davies and Samuel Hutcheon whose funerals are due to take place.
