Today at our 10.45 service we are pleased to welcome back Rev’d Fiona Haines who will preach and preside. Fiona lives in Fleetwood and is a Prison Chaplain at Wesham and Haverigg open prisons.

Holy Cross Day: We celebrated this special festival yesterday in the daily offices. Two thousand years ago, the cross on which Jesus was crucified became a universal symbol for Christianity. Early in the 4th century pilgrims began to travel to Jerusalem to visit and pray in the places associated with the life of Jesus. Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine was a Christian and whilst overseeing excavations in the city, is said to have uncovered the wood of the cross – which many believed to be the cross of Christ. The crosses of the two thieves were also recovered. A basilica was built on the site of the Holy Sepulchre and dedicated on the 14th September in the year 335.

Almighty God, who in the passion of your blessed Son made an

instrument of painful death to be for us the means of life and peace:

grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ that we may gladly suffer for his sake;

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Harvest 2024: We will be celebrating our harvest festival on Sunday 13th October. Items of chocolate, wines, spirits, household goods etc together with tinned and dried foods may be delivered to the Vicar’s Vestry, where they will be received with grateful thanks.

Christmas Planning: Our Christmas raffle is a big part of our Christmas Fair and the tickets are now available. This year we are asking everyone to take 4 books of raffle tickets and try to sell them to family and friends. Let’s all make a special effort to sell as many as we can as this is a super way for people outside of the church to support the ongoing ministry of St Nic’s.

Please remember in your prayers: Jeff Chambers, Katie, Brian Brown, Mark Price, Debbie,

Michael Carthy, Rev Jane Everett, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, John McLellan, Karen, David Richardson and Elaine Clarke. And we remember the families of, Alan Rigby, Bert Campbell, Ramona Leek and Nena White whose funerals are due to take place.
