Getting here
'We the people of St. Cuthbert's, Lytham, aim to embrace God's love,
to share it in worship and fellowship and to proclaim it in the community.'
We welcome all who want to come and worship God with us.
Our History
Although St Cuthbert’s celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2009, this is only a fraction of the time that there has been a church on the present site. There have been several St Cuthbert’s Churches in the vicinity. The ‘Priory Charter of Lytham’ 1387 indicates there was a parish church before 1190. This would have been a modest building used when the Benedictine Cell was founded in Lytham. It was demolished in the 16th Century. Its successor was demolished in the 18th Century, and the next building made way for the current church in 1834.
Our current building
The current church is a neat structure of red brick with a bell tower and porch. It is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows and panel paintings. Examples include the south aisle window designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones. The seating capacity, with balcony, is 500. There is access and areas for wheelchairs, including toilets and a permenant ramp to the side chapel where the sacrements may be received easily.
Our style of worship
Our 10am Sunday Service is a Family Sung Eucharist with a Sunday Club for young people. We also have a BCP said Holy Communion service with hymns at 8:30am and a BCP said Evening Prayer service with hymns at 6pm.
We also hold various special services for holidays and festivals to include various organisations and occasions, including Parade services for our uniformed youth organisations, Rememberance Sunday, All Souls, Harvest, Easter, Advent, Crib Service and Christingle.
Coffee and cakes are served between and after services to encourgae more fellowship. Also on occassions we enjoy meals and special activities together in the Victory Hall.
